You are invited to a special VINE seminar with Darktrace on the topic of cyber artificial intelligence (AI) – and how to trust AI to fight back in real time.

The education sector is full of intellectual property, with many educational institutions embracing digital applications to better facilitate learning and enabling students to use personal devices on the network to enrich their educational experience. This simultaneously creates more network vulnerabilities and opportunities for cyber-attacks, adding pressure on lean infrastructure teams responsible for protecting users and sensitive data. How can the security teams defend their institution, regardless of network size or complexity?

Darktrace is today the most widely-deployed application of AI in the enterprise. From our experience across 7,000 deployments worldwide, Darktrace will present on:

    • The current cyber-threats specific to the education sector
    • How AI’s autonomous response decision-making works (and how to trust it)
    • Darktrace’s predictions for the evolution of automated threats
    • A live demo of the Threat Visualiser, using Carey Baptist Grammar School’s network environment

The speaker at this event will be Steven Archibald, Information, Communication and Technology Manager at Carey Baptist Grammar School. Steven will speak about his experience with Darktrace, during the Proof of Value (POV) and how Darktrace’s machine learning and AI technology is helping Carey to defend against cyber-attacks and provide total network visibility.

Where: Carey Baptist Grammar School, 349 Barkers Road, Kew VIC 3101.

Lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the seminar.

Please note that registration for this seminar is required. Attendees will need to provide their mobile phone number and WWC and/or VIT numbers. This is a requirement of schools and VINE in regards to best practice for child safety.

An agenda for the day will be published soon.

The annual mobile device showcase allows vendors to present their offerings to members of VINE. For members, it is a one stop showcase to have a peak at the device offering in one location. Feedback from both attendees and vendors is that the showcase day is not to be missed.

In 2019 the device showcase is complimented by vendors presenting on Community Engagement. This is an area of core significance to all schools. The topic covers a number of areas such as:

    • policy including privacy, enrolment agreements and parent communication policy

    • academic reporting – progressive and end of semester

    • approvals including excursions, camps and policies

    • updating of data

    • general communication.

As has become the tradition at the showcase, the day finishes with drinks/nibbles at the Principal's Residence followed by dinner at Swipers Gully Restaurant. Please sign up for the dinner session as well as the day if you intend to stay for dinner.

Schools take advantage of managed services many different ways. From the small outsourcing of a firewall as a project, 1:1 device maintenance and servicing, to the total outsourcing of IT function within a school are three examples. How are managed services appropriate to an organisation? In some ways this can be a controversial topic within IT in schools. It is also an area where IT and the financial administration of the school work closely together.

Hence the potential of this meeting being a joint VINE/ASBA event. ASBA - Australian School Bursars association.

The program for the day will be provided closer to the event date. Add this date to your calendar so you don't forget about the meeting.
